Safety Officer

JOB SUMMARY:

We are seeking a proactive and experienced Safety Officer to oversee the daily operations of a designated unit within the Clinical Laboratory. The ideal candidate will ensure that all activities are executed efficiently and in full compliance with the organization’s established policies, standards, and procedures

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • This person is responsible on planning, lead, and coordinate all operational activities of the unit to ensure optimal performance and compliance.
    • Encourage innovation through creative problem-solving and continuous improvement in systems, processes, and services. Develop and implement strategic plans aligned with organizational goals, addressing both short- and long-term objectives.
    • Foster a collaborative team environment and maintain strong working relationships across departments. Make sound, data-driven decisions to support operational effectiveness and achieve business goals.
    • Ensure compliance with DOLE, OSHA, hospital safety regulations, and laboratory accreditation standards. Conduct regular safety inspections and audits within laboratory facilities.
    • Monitor adherence to biosafety, chemical safety, waste disposal, and infection control protocols. Investigate workplace incidents, accidents, and near misses, and recommend corrective actions.
    • Drive results by translating business strategies into actionable goals, and establishing systems to monitor workflow and outputs.

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

    • Identify workplace hazards and conduct risk assessments for laboratory operations. Develop and implement preventive and corrective safety measures.
    • Maintain updated safety procedures, emergency response plans, and evacuation protocols. Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous chemicals and biological materials.
    • Conduct safety orientations and regular training sessions for laboratory personnel.
    • Promote safety awareness programs and emergency preparedness activities.
    • Ensure all employees are knowledgeable about PPE usage and laboratory safety procedures.
    • Maintain records of safety inspections, incidents, corrective actions, and compliance reports.
    • Prepare and submit required safety documentation and reports to management and regulatory bodies.
    • Serve as part of the emergency response team during incidents and emergencies.
    • Coordinate with hospital departments regarding fire safety, infection control, and occupational health concerns. Assist in conducting emergency drills and business continuity activities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

    • A graduate and licensed Medical Technologist with leadership, organizational, and people management skills.
    • With at least 3-5 years experience demonstrating expertise in strategic planning, performance management, quality assurance, and team development.
    • Certification advantage for Biosafety and HIV training.
    • Amenable to work in Zamboanga City.
