24 Hour Urine – Amylase

Test Information:
The Amylase urine test measures the amount of amylase in a sample of urine collected collected for 24 hours.  Amylase is produced in the pancreas and parotid glands. Elevated result may aid in the diagnosis of pancreatitis and other pancreatic disorders.

Required Volume:
10mL

Patient Preparation:
•  At the start of the collection, empty your bladder and discard the first urine.
• Collect all urine passed over the next 24 hours.
• Record the start and end date and time of the collection.
• Keep the urine container refrigerated or stored in an ice chest throughout the collection period.

Notes:

  • For aliquoted sample, please indicate total volume in mL and specific gravity, date and time of start and end of collection.
  • For females, urine can be collected in a separate clean container and then carefully poured into the 24‑hour urine collection container.
