Test Information:
Measurements of Complement C4 performed with this assay in human serum can be used as an aid in assessing possible complement system imbalance, associated with or observed during a number of underlying disease states or pathological conditions, including inflammatory and infectious diseases. A decrease in C4 is common, while complete absence is rare. A lowered concentration or the complete absence of C4 occurs in active immune complex diseases and autoimmune diseases, such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).Infections such as bacterial and viral meningitis, streptococcal and staphylococcal sepsis and pneumonia are associated with a fall in C4.
