Fecal Immunochemical Test (FIT)

Test Information:
Rapid, visual immunoassay for the qualitative, presumptive detection of human haemoglobin in faecal specimens. The test is intended for use as an aid in diagnosis of lower gastrointestinal pathologies.

Patient Preparation:

  • Patients SHOULD NOT collect samples during their menstrual period and/or 3 days before or after menstruating.
  • It is also not recommended to collect specimen is patient has bleeding hemorrhoids, blood in urine or if they experience strain during their bowel movement.
  • No dietary restrictions required.

Notes:
To obtain optimal results, it is recommended that freshly collected specimen must be submitted in the laboratory as soon as possible or within 1 hour after specimen collection.

•However, if delay in transportation occurs, it is vital to follow the stipulated storage and stability. Specimen received beyond the stipulated storage and stability is considered “sub-optimal” in nature.
•Specimen should not be contaminated with urine, water or other contaminants.
