Hemoglobin electrophoresis is a well-established technique routinely used in clinical laboratories to screen samples for hemoglobinopathies (hemoglobin variants and thalassemias). Hemoglobin fractions are separated in silica capillaries, by their electrophoretic mobility and electroosmotic flow at a high voltage in an alkaline buffer.

Notes:
CBC and Hemoglobin Electrophoresis specimen must be collected on the same day. In cases where CBC is conducted by an external laboratory, it is required that the report must include complete RBC indices (MCV, MCH, MCHC, RDW).
- The following test results (resulted within a month) must be attached and/or provided upon specimen endorsement:
1. Latest CBC results with RBC indices
2. History of blood transfusion
3. Result of Iron Studies or any iron supplementation given, as applicable.
NO BLOOD TRANSFUSION WITHIN 3 MONTHS. If with recent transfusion refer to Pathologist/s and/or requesting physician.
Analyzer can only process specimen for ages above 3 months old.
