Herpes simplex virus (HSV) I and II PCR

Test Information:
Herpes simplex virus (HSV) is one of the most common agents infecting human of all ages. The virus occurs world wide and produces a variety of illnesses including mucocutaneous infections, infections of the CNS and occasionally infections of the visceral organs, it is also a sexually transmitted disease.

Specimen Container:

  • 4N6 FLOQ Swab
  • Gold Top SST Tube (with clot activator) or Red Top Tube (Plain)
  • Lavender Top Tube (EDTA)
  • Sterile / Plain Urine Container

Specimen Type:

  • Herpes Secretions or Genital Swab
  • Serum
  • Plasma or Whole Blood
  • CSF

Required Volume:

  • Herpes Secretions Swab – 1 mL
  • Genital Swab – 1 mL
  • Serum – 2 mL
  • Plasma – 2 mL
  • Whole Blood – 4 mL
  • CSF – 2 mL

Patient Preparation:
No Patient Preparation

Notes:
For swab samplesUse DNA/RNA– free Dacron Swab (FloqSwab). Immerse Swab in a 2mL NSS after collection of sample. Swab samples without NSS should be submitted to Molecular within 1 Hour upon collection.

Important: Cotton and wooden shaft swabs are NOT acceptable. DNA MUST be extracted within 3 days after sample collection.
