Herpes simplex virus (HSV) is one of the most common agents infecting human of all ages. The virus occurs world wide and produces a variety of illnesses including mucocutaneous infections, infections of the CNS and occasionally infections of the visceral organs, it is also a sexually transmitted disease.

Notes:
For swab samples– Use DNA/RNA– free Dacron Swab (FloqSwab). Immerse Swab in a 2mL NSS after collection of sample. Swab samples without NSS should be submitted to Molecular within 1 Hour upon collection.
Important: Cotton and wooden shaft swabs are NOT acceptable. DNA MUST be extracted within 3 days after sample collection.
