Mycobacterium Other Than Tuberculosis Specification (MOTT Speciation)

Test Information:
This test is for the rapid and accurate identification of most strains of mycobacteria isolated from solid growth media. This procedure allows identification of organisms on the basis of unique spectral fingerprints produced by extracted proteins using Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization Time-of-Flight charged particles accelerated by a laser.

Specimen Container:
Mycobacteria Growth Indicator Tube (MGIT) or Lowenstein-Jensen Medium (LJ)

Specimen Type:

  • MOTT (TBAg Negative) isolated from MGIT.
  • Less than 5 week old isolate on LJ.

Required Volume:
Confluent growth

No Patient Preparation

Notes:
Result of TB Culture and Sensitivity must have a suggestion for MOTT identification and susceptibility.
