Phenotypic Carbapenemase Screening

Test Information:
Carbapenem resistance is one of the most concerning forms of antimicrobial resistance, particularly when encountered in the Enterobacteriaceae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Acinetobacter baumannii. This test detects carbapenemase activity in bacterial isolates recovered in culture.

Isolate in Blood Agar Plate

Specimen Type:
24-hour old pure isolate of MDR Gram Negative Rods on BAP

Required Volume:
Confluent growth

Patient Preparation:
No Patient Preparation

Notes:

  • Result of Culture and Sensitivity of the isolate for testing must be included and have a suggestion for Carbapenemase Screening
  • Ensure that the isolate to be forwarded is sealed using parafilm (triple packaging).
