The prothrombin time (PT) is a useful screening procedure for the extrinsic coagulation mechanism including the common pathway (detects deficiencies in factors II, V, VII, and X). The PT is frequently used to follow the course of oral anticoagulant therapy.

To obtain optimal results, it is recommended to transport freshly collected specimen within 15 minutes from time of collection or aliquoted specimen within 24 hours from time of collection.

- Specimen received beyond the stipulated storage and stability is considered “sub-optimal” in nature.
DO NOT FREEZE SPECIMEN.
