Serum Amyloid A

Test Information:
SAA is an acute-phase protein and is mainly produced by the liver in response to proinflammatory cytokines that are secreted by the activated monocytes. SAA is a family of 12 kDa acute-phase proteins. Of the four major isoforms, SAA1 and SAA2 are the predominant circulating proteins during the acute-phase response. The SAA3 gene is considered to be a non expressed gene, whereas the SAA4 gene is constitutively expressed, and its protein product is a constituent of normal, non-acute-phase HDL.
