Test Information:
This test involves the examination of Synovial fluid for uric acid crystals or monosodium urates (MSU), that can aid in the clinical diagnosis of gout.

Notes:
To obtain optimal results, it is recommended that synovial fluid should be transported and received by the laboratory within four (4) hours after collection and transported at room temperature (15 °C to 25 °C).

  • Specimen received beyond the stipulated storage and stability is considered “sub-optimal” in nature.
  • Specimen for crystal analysis SHOULD NOT BE REFRIGERATED.
  • Refrigerated specimen can produce additional crystals that can interfere with the identification of significant crystals.
