Von Willebrand disease is the most frequent congenital human bleeding disorder and is caused by a reduction or dysfunction of von Willebrand factor (VWF). Von Willebrand factor activity is used in the determination of von Willebrand factor GPlb-binding activity which aids in the diagnosis and monitoring of congenital or acquired VWF deficiencies in patients with bleeding disorders or at risk for VWF deficiency.

To obtain optimal results, it is recommended to separate plasma from whole blood within 15 minutes from the time of collection; aliquoted specimen must be transported within 24 hours from the time of collection.
- For aliquoted specimen, DO NOT USE GLASS TUBE CONTAINER.
- For frozen specimens, send specimen on running day prior to cut-off period. Freeze plasma within 8 hours of blood collection at -20°C. One time thawing only.
