Dec 13, 2024 | Press Release

world aids day

HIV is short for (human immunodeficiency virus); this is a virus that is spread via blood and bodily fluids and kills the white blood cells in the body. As a result, the immune system is immensely weakened. Thus, the body will have a hard time fighting illnesses and infections.

Since 1988, World Aids Day has been celebrated and remains as relevant as ever. It remains a platform to honor the lives lost to the disease, celebrate the strength of the communities most affected by the condition, and shine a spotlight on the work of prevention and elimination of the disease.

Stages of HIV

  1. Acute HIV: This is the earliest stage of HIV infection and lasts for 14 days (2 weeks). Symptoms may go away.
  2. Chronic stage/clinical latency: HIV continues to multiply within the body. In this stage, you can have the virus but not feel its physical symptoms. In this period, you need to be wary as you can still spread the virus to others.
  3. AIDS: This is the last stage. In this stage, HIV has weakened the immune system. As a result, you are more prone to getting opportunistic infections and diseases such as cancer.

Tests and Packages You Can Take For HIV and Aids

  • HIV Detection Test: This test screens if you are positive for HIV. Through early detection, you can prevent the disease from worsening and manage it with early treatment.
  • STD LabCheQ: This is a comprehensive package for STD checking and includes an HIV test.
  • Pre-Natal LabCheQ with STD Screening: One of the ways that HIV can be transmitted is from the mother to her baby. Our HIV Detection Test is available in our Pre-Natal LabCheq. This package can help detect if the mother is positive for HIV.
